On Wednesday, June 1, 2011, the Midwest Athletic Association of the Deaf Executive Board debated and decided to assume full responsibility of hosting the 2012 MAAD regional basketball tournament in March 2012. Bid withdrawal by the original winning bidder and constraints of the organizational bylaws are the reasons for the decision.

During the 2011 MAAD regional basketball tournament in March 2011, a lone bid was submitted and approved by the Board of Delegates, and a few weeks later the winning bidder withdrew its bid. The board discussed the next steps necessary to secure a bid to host the basketball tournament in 2012. The organizational bylaws stipulate that bids must be submitted and voted upon by the Board of Delegates at the annual meeting which occurs during the annual regional basketballtournament. Furthermore, the bylaws do not allow suspension of any bylaws under any circumstances. These constraints with a very short time frame were basis of the MAAD board's decision to host the 2012 regional basketball tournament.

After securing anapproval from the Board of Delegates during the 2011 regional softball tournament at St. Louis, Missouri in July, the MAAD Board will announce details of the tournament. MAAD appreciates all the support from club members, players and fans.
